Grace In Real Life

Hello all! I know I’ve been away for a little bit, but I promise it’s all for good reason and I’m back in full force!

So it was recently brought to my attention that majority of my blog posts on G.I.R.L. have been based around baseball (which honestly is NOT my whole life, contrary to belief LOL) and I wanted to change that. So instead of posting about my beloved Angels on here I’ll now be posting my thoughts on the Angels on a separate blog, Angels Baseball Report. It’s got an awesome MLB Angels theme that I’m super excited about. Enjoy!

Instead of doing a wrap up of the series against the Rays (which I was late for anyway) let’s discuss the Angels 5-9 loss to the Red Sox last night.

First and foremost, I thought it was impressive that Jered Weaver went out there and pitched the way he did (6 innings, 6 strikeouts) despite losing 9 lbs. over a span of a few days after coming down with a stomach virus that resulted in a scratched start for their Sunday game against the Rays. He was recently awarded the AL Pitcher of the Month by the MLB, which honestly came as no surprise  to anyone who follows baseball.

With that said, the Angels offense was clearly sleeping with runners on base as they had more hits than the Red Sox, but just couldn’t capitalize when it counted. Didn’t help that the bullpen (H. Takahashi and F. Rodriguez) just couldn’t hold it together once Weaver stepped off the mound. Combine that with a fielding error by Peter Bourjos and the fact that the Angels haven’t played well against the Red Sox in some time, and before I knew it, the game was over and Weaver was handed his first loss of the season. Even with a last minute surge–the Angels just couldn’t fire back in time to fix the damage.

The only good that came of Weaver’s illness was the reorganization of our pitching order so that our double aces can pitch back to back from here on out. Dan Haren (4-1 and 1.23 era) will step on the mound against ace Jon Lester (3-1 and 2.52 era) of the Red Sox tonight–let’s hope he can be a factor in breaking the Red Sox winning streak against the Angels.

I’ve never been one to celebrate or support the celebration of the death of another human being, but I suppose this could be one of those exceptions–not that I’m personally doing anything in particular to “celebrate” other than prep for long security waits for my flight to Texas later this weekend.

After nearly 10 years, the search for Osama bin Laden is over. The best picture I could find online (though I could not find the original poster of this photo, so I apologize for the lack of credit) is a photo of a group of NY firemen reading the news unfold.

If you haven’t seen it already, below is the official announcement by President Barack Obama:

After the seriously FAIL series against the Red Sox (still too fresh to talk about it) boyfriend and I decided that the Angels needed a good luck visit from us to start off their series with the Oakland Athletics ;) . I say good luck because my rally monkey, tattered red shirt, and red hair ribbon combination has yet to attend a losing game (I’m not superstitious … but why mess with success, right?). So we packed up our snacks, got into our power outfits, and headed to Angels Stadium.

With ace Jered Weaver on the mound, the Angels were facing off with division rivals, the Oakland A’s, and coming off a HORRIBLE sweep by the Boston Red Sox (hate them!). Despite the missing offense during the Red Sox series, I went into the game with faith … I always do. Especially with Jered Weaver on the mound. Not necessarily because Weaver gets a lot of run support, but mostly because his pitching prowess keeps the run count down defensively.

Well, turns out my power outfit must have worked because Weaver got 10 strikeouts for a 5-0 win over the A’s and the Angels bats came back to life. Finally.

The power of the outfit carried over to game two of the series–the Angels taking the game 8-3 with 16 hits. The young guys were on fire (kinda like a repeat of the second game in the Rangers series) and got 6 of the 7 rbis of the game. Tyler Chatwood is pretty good for a rookie, but needs to work on confidence and stop pitching those perfectly placed home run hittable balls! Other than that … not bad for a new kid.

Game 3, Dan Haren on the mound. The offense dwindled on the last game of the series, but that’s okay! We can’t win them all … baby steps. Though, I just want to say that Aybar should’ve been safe on first (with no outs) when he got hit with that pitch in the 9th–which should have resulted in 2 runs instead of 1 off of Abreu’s double that brought in Mark Trumbo. Just sayin’. But enough with the “what if” scenarios ;)

To finish off my blog, here’s a video for your viewing pleasure … my journey to Angels Stadium:

Thanks for tuning into my first Angels report. I’ll do better with the next one … this one is a REALLY rough first post. ;)

Go ANGELS!

If you know me personally, then you know I’m a baseball fan–an Angels fan, to be exact.

remember this photo? ;)

Since I attend (Angels Stadium), watch (Fox Sports West), listen (AM 830), or follow (blackberry livestat feed) every single Angels game I was thinking about starting a series called G.I.R.L.’s Angels Report on my G.I.R.L blog/youtube channel. Not quite sure what structure I want to take quite yet, but I do know that I’ll likely do a series wrap up type of vlog or blog at the end of each series. With that said … I’ll start off by discussing the series against the Oakland Athletics (hopefully before the Tampa series starts) so bear with me while I try to find a success structure that you can all enjoy.

I’m currently covering updates on the singles figure skating World Championships on my Grace On Ice blog if anyone is interested. I’ve got a lot going on in the bloggerazzi world so let’s hope that this is something that I can keep up regularly–wish me luuuck ;)

{April 14, 2011}   Appreciate Your Loved Ones

This past week has been a lesson about the circle of life.

It started out great with a new life being brought into the world–a baby girl. Then the week came to a crashing halt with the end of another–a friend’s grandmother. It’s a subtle reminder that life is a cycle and the end is inevitable, but it always comes as a surprise--always just a tad too soon.

It’s sad that it takes a tragedy to be reminded of how short our time on earth really is–that we fail to fully understand and grasp the frailty of life until it’s too late.

I’ve lost more than a few loved ones in my life; more than I’d like to say. Some to natural causes, some to accidents, and sadly–even a few to suicides.

And the thoughts that always comes to mind are: I hope they knew how much I appreciated every moment I was able to spend with them (even if the appreciation comes in retrospect) and I hope that I was able to bring just a little bit of happiness into their lives.

But why should we have to wait to wonder? Let’s be proactive and share the love and happiness with all our loved ones on a daily basis. Say your thank yous. I love yous. And share your smiles, laughter, and hugs. Don’t go to sleep angry … forgive. And do it often. Life is just too short. Let’s start now and make that extra effort and share your appreciation for the ones you love.

So what are you waiting for? ;) Go out there and spread some love.

’til next time,

xx

The most basic, yet complex thing to ask a person you’ve met for the first time. I kind of dreaded that question when I used to go in for job interviews; however…it was the one question I would always ask, without fail, when the tables turned and I was the interviewer. Go figure.

The thing is, I always find myself struggling to come up with a compact enough answer to really describe myself in just a few short sentences. It’s not that I’m a complex person, it’s more that I’m not exactly a simple person either. ;)

At first glance most people would tag me as the “girly girl” and they’d be right. I’m a Hello Kitty loving, bow wearing, figure skating, professional makeup artist. Girly girl.

But on the other hand, I love sports. Like REALLY love sports. And writing. In fact, my dream career for the longest time was to be a sportswriter. Still kinda is.

You can also say I’m shy, but chatty. Precise, yet creative. Warm, yet standoffish. Oxymoron? Maybe. Your typical libra? Perhaps. Or just me. Grace.

I could TRY to sit here and type up everything about myself in this post, but then I realized that would be impossible. Not to mention it would defeat the purpose of this blog. What I’m trying to say is … this blog’s existence as a whole still wouldn’t be able to cover all of me. But, with each new post I’ll be shedding the layers upon layers of my being with all of you. I hope it’s something that you will enjoy as much as I will enjoy sharing them. I look forward to taking you on my lil life adventures.

xx

ps. yes … that is the mister in my life for those of you who tweeted me ;)
